About this artwork

Drottningskär Citadel stands on a small island just off Aspö in the Karlskrona archipelago, built in the last decades of the seventeenth century to Erik Dahlbergh's design to guard the main sea approach to the new naval base. Its heart is an elongated granite donjon, with a cannon battery on the roof and barracks and powder magazines below, ringed by four bastions named after Swedish queens: Maria, Christina, Hedvig and Ulrica. The fortress never modernised, it survives as one of the best-preserved fortifications of Sweden's great-power age, and it forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage naval port of Karlskrona.

Every Jason D’s Vision image is an AI-generated artistic interpretation of a real place — original artwork, not a photograph. The label bar on the download may show a creative daylight scenario; that is artistic staging, not a record of a real event.
