About this artwork

Taxinge Castle, at Näsby in Nykvarn municipality, is a white neoclassical manor house built between 1807 and 1813 for Anders von Wahrendorff to designs by Carl Christoffer Gjörwell. It stands on a hill above Gripsholm Bay on Lake Mälaren, on an estate whose history reaches back to the 13th century. The castle is famous across Sweden as Kakslottet, the Cake Castle, whose café serves around sixty kinds of cake on what is billed as Northern Europe's largest cake buffet. The house also appeared in Ingmar Bergman's film Cries and Whispers.
