About this artwork
Sundbyholm Castle stands on the southern shore of Lake Mälaren north of Eskilstuna, on land that belonged in the Middle Ages to the Johannite monastery in Eskilstuna. The present castle was built between 1639 and 1648 by Admiral Carl Gyllenhielm, a son of King Karl IX, and though fires in 1674 and 1774 forced rebuildings, its great pale main block still anchors the estate. Prince Eugen painted the castle in 1893 in his famous canvas The Old Castle. Today the castle is a hotel and conference house, beside the largest marina in Eskilstuna municipality and a long sandy bathing beach.
Every Jason D’s Vision image is an AI-generated artistic interpretation of a real place — original artwork, not a photograph. The label bar on the download may show a creative daylight scenario; that is artistic staging, not a record of a real event.
