About this artwork
Byrums raukar stand on the west coast of northern Öland, just south of the village of Byrum. About 120 limestone stacks, the tallest around four metres, are spread along some 600 metres of shingle beach in a nature reserve of about three hectares, protected since 1935. The limestone grew from a coral reef in a tropical sea some 490 million years ago and is rich in fossils, including the straight-shelled orthocerids that helped build the reef. Raukar occur only on the Swedish Baltic islands, and Byrum is the only rauk field on Öland.
Every Jason D’s Vision image is an AI-generated artistic interpretation of a real place — original artwork, not a photograph. The label bar on the download may show a creative daylight scenario; that is artistic staging, not a record of a real event.
