About this artwork

Hovdala Castle, south of Hässleholm near Lake Finjasjön, is a fortified manor of three buildings set in a U-shape around a courtyard: the north building dates from the early sixteenth century, possibly 1511 as stated on its facade, the east living quarters from 1681-82, and the south building from 1805. Across the former moat, now a dry dip in the ground, stands the separate defensive gate tower erected in 1600, which withstood the castle's sieges; a stone plaque dated 1633 commemorates the siege of 1612. The castle was the home of the Ehrenborg family for nine generations, and its restoration received a Europa Nostra award in 2004.
