About this artwork
The Greyfriars Monastery in Ystad, Klostret i Ystad, was founded in 1267 by a donation of the knight Holmger and his wife Katarina, for the Franciscan friars known as the grey friars. Together with Vadstena Abbey it is one of the best-preserved medieval monasteries in Sweden. The complex is built almost entirely of red brick in Brick Gothic style: St Peter's church with its bell tower, a two-storey gatehouse, and the one surviving monastery wing with richly decorated crow-stepped gables. The friars were expelled in 1532 during the Reformation; today the buildings house Ystad's museum of cultural history, ringed by a rose garden and a herb garden.
Every Jason D’s Vision image is an AI-generated artistic interpretation of a real place — original artwork, not a photograph. The label bar on the download may show a creative daylight scenario; that is artistic staging, not a record of a real event.
